ThinTherm LLC (ThinTherm) is an engineering firm that seeks to address optical and thermal characterization and testing concerns through our various laser-based measurements systems, such as variable wavelength reflectivity and transmissivity, short-pulsed time-domain thermoreflectance (TDTR), and short-pulsed and continuous wave pump-probe frequency-domain thermoreflectance (FDTR).

Our characterization capabilities include the ability to measure the following quantities in various phases of matter, in bulk and thin film geometries:

  • Thermal conductivity
  • Heat capacity
  • Density
  • Sound speed in thin films
  • Film thickness
  • Thermal boundary conductance
  • Reflectivity
  • Absorptivity
  • Transmissivity
  • Index of refraction
  • Extinction coefficient

These measurements are realized through the following in-house capabilities:

  • 6 pump-probe thermometry systems
  • 2 Raman spectroscopy systems
  • Wavelength capabilities: 260 nm – 16 mm
  • Temperature capabilities: ~10 – 1,800 K
  • Applied electric and magnetic fields during optical and thermal measurements
  • Variable atmospheres during optical and thermal measuremetns, including inert and reactive/oxidizing atmospheres
